August 1    SLAYER
Times Union Center
51 South Pearl Street - Albany, NY  (518) 487-2000.
Slayer
with Lamb of God, Testament, Anthrax & NAPALM DEATH
A second North American leg for this tour had been considered to take place at some point down the line, but within 48-hours of the initial January 26 ticket on sale date, that all changed.

“We were blown away by the speed of sales for the final run,” said Rick Franks, President of Touring for Live Nation, one of the tour’s promoters. "Thirty-six years later and Slayer is bigger than ever before.”

On January 22, 2018, Slayer announced that it would do one last concert tour around the globe to thank their fans for all of their support over the years, for making the last three-and-a-half decades so packed with good times and unforgettable experiences, and then move on.

Iago’s jealousy drives him to manipulate everyone around him, including Roderigo who is already enraged that the woman whom he secretly loves, Desdemona, has been married to the “Moor.” Just as it appears a long life of combat and conflict may be behind him, Othello's mind is infected by Iago’s deception and he grows jealous as Iago convinces him Desdemona is unfaithful and a whole host of other characters fall victim to Iago's falsehoods, thus leading to the play’s tragic end.

August 11  RESTORING OLD GROWTH FOREST
Young's Bog Preserve
Call For Directions - Sand Lake, NY  (518) 659-5263.
With Dr. David Hunt, at RLT's Young's Bog Preserve, Sand Lake. Workshop on how to recognize, restore, and monitor old growth forest.

Young's Bog Nature Preserve in the Town of Sand Lake protects a classic kettlehole bog. Young's Bog is surrounded by an intact, high-quality inland poor fen with a floating mat of Sphagnum peat moss that supports wild cranberries, the insect-eating pitcher plant and sundew, and other plants found only in nutrient-poor bog habitats. Some of the plants here are rare for Rensselaer County. The narrow fen zone grades into a border area of open-canopy black spruce and tamarack (or larch) bog. The inland poor fen and black spruce-tamarack bog around Young's Bog Nature Preserve comprise the second largest complex of these wetland types in Rensselaer County, and the largest outside the Rensselaer Plateau. The fen and bog are surrounded by hemlock-hardwood swamp and red maple swamp and by uplands with hemlock-northern hardwood forest, all of which serve as a buffer for the ecologically significant fen and bog habitats.

August 21   NIGHT SKY ADVENTURE
Museum Of Innovation & Science - Dudley Observatory
15 Nott Terrace Heights - Schenectady, NY (518) 382-7890.

Tonight’s Topic: Parker Solar Probe

The Parker Solar Probe is a brave new mission to our closest star, the Sun. Swooping in at only 4 million miles from the surface, this robotic spacecraft will help astronomers understand how heat, energy and plasma radiates away from the sun. Join us as we explore the sun and go closer than any spacecraft has gone before.

Night Sky Adventures are astronomy fun for the whole family! Educators from the Dudley Observatory, in conjunction with volunteers from the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers group, present astronomy lessons, planetarium shows and night sky viewing (weather depending). Amateur astronomers and families are invited to bring binoculars or telescopes. One or more telescopes will be provided for public use.

Cost: Admission to miSci ($10.50 adult, $7.50 child age 3-12, $9 senior 65+), Free for miSci members

Come early to enjoy the museum galleries as well as the Dudley Observatory program. miSci will be open continuously from 9am through the end of the Night Sky Adventure. Beginning in September of 2018 Night Sky Adventures moves to Thursdays.

Synopsis:
The Tragedy of Othello (or The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice) revolves around the title character and the circumstances resulting from his secret marriage to the daughter of a senator, the beautiful Desdemona, as well as the promotion of Michael Cassio over Othello's most trusted confidant, Iago.
